Harmony at Palmview officially opens

Harmony at Palmview officially opens

This morning the Avid Property Group officially opened Peter Crosby way which is the brand new connection road into Harmony at Palmview.

It has been some 15 years since Palmview was originally envisaged and today marks one step closer to delivery of this brand new master planned community at the very Heart of the Sunshine Coast.

The Sippy Downs and district community association and the volunteers that have driven it along for the past 13 years played an integral part in ensuring that this development had the best possible balance with the least possible negative impact upon the Sippy Downs community.

Councillor Christian Dickson from Division 6, Sunshine Coast Council said of this brand new opening ” This is a fantastic new residential community right in the heart of the Sunshine Coast providing over 20 hectares open space for recreational purposes forming part of the total 100 hectares of open space for the community. This will serve as further community access areas for the existing Sippy Downs community and will provide many new road access points both North to the Sunshine Motorway and South to the Caloundra interchange at Caloundra Road and direct access to the Bruce Highway so in terms of Road access this is good for the community.”

The community association would like to thank have a property group for inviting us to attend and we look forward to forging strong relationships between the entire Palmview community and the Sippy Downs community as a whole.

Exploring UNITY in CommUNITY with Christian Dickson

Exploring UNITY in CommUNITY with Christian Dickson

Yesterday our President Matt Druce and Secretary Jo Jenkins had the opportunity to meet with Local Government Division 6 Councillor,  Christian Dickson to discuss the SDDCA’s Unity in CommUNITY program.

Yesterday’s meeting with Christian was an opportunity for us as a community organisation to continue exploring UNITY in CommUNITY, the SDDCA’s vision of what we see is the way forward for local community organisations to support, resource and assist each other in the best possible way.

Having now met with Member for Kawana, Jarrod Bleijie MP and Local Government Division 6 Councillor, Christian Dickson we look forward to meeting with Federal Member for Fisher, Andrew Wallace MP in January 2017 and presenting the SDDCA’s Unity in CommUNITY program to him as well.

We are thrilled to announce that Cr Christian Dickson is the first signatory to the Unity in CommUNITY foundation document and look forward to securing Andrew Wallace’s and Jarrod Bleijie’s in the new year.

We extend an offer to all local residents, community organisations and non-profits to contact us at any time so that we may present SDDCA’s Unity in CommUNITY program to you as well. Once we have a clear and definite commitment from all our elected representatives we will be setting up meetings with each and every stakeholder in the Sippy Downs and District area and beyond linking all the tiers of community advocacy and service provision under the Unity in CommUNITY foundation document.

The SDDCA’s Unity in CommUNITY program is an exciting step for the SDDCA and for the community members we advocate for and with, and we look forward to any feedback, suggestions, or ideas that anyone has on how we can further improve our goal to deliver this program for the benefit of each and every one of you.

Do not Knock Stickers NOW AVAILABLE

Do not Knock Stickers NOW AVAILABLE

Your rights and Do not Knock Stickers

Over the last few years the Sippy Downs and District Community Association (SDDCA) has had a number of enquiries about the legalities of unsolicited salespeople knocking on the doors of residents homes with a sales pitch ready on the tip of their tongue, specifically do Do not Knock Stickers exist to combat salespeople knocking on doors.

Do not Knock Stickers

We are thrilled to let you all know the Australia Post Shopfront, Sippy Downs and also Suncoast Family Medical, Sippy Downs are both now holding Do not Knock Stickers supplied to the SDDCA for distribution to local residents. Simply pop your head in the door, ask for a sticker and pop home and stick it on your door or next to your doorbell.

Do not Knock Stickers

You as residents and business owners have rights under Australian Consumer Law when a salesperson approaches you at your front door and even over the phone or in a public place. These protections apply to sales methods that are called ‘unsolicited consumer agreements’ and with this sticker affixed to your door it becomes an offence for salespeople to do so.

The sign is aimed at salespeople supplying goods or services for trade or commerce and does not cover other door knockers such as religious groups or charity fundraisers. However, consumers can always ask any unwanted visitors to leave their premises.

When can a door-to-door salesperson visit?

If you do not display a “Do not Knock” sticker Door-to-door salespeople are still not allowed to visit you:

on Sundays or public holidays
before 9am or after 6pm on weekdays
before 9am or after 5pm on Saturdays.

The salesperson must:

tell you that you can ask them to leave
leave immediately if you ask them to and not return for 30 days.

If you don’t wish to be visited by door-to-door salespeople at all, simply place a SDDCA supplied Do not Knock Stickers at your front door available at Australia Post, Sippy Downs and also Suncoast Family Medical, Sippy Downs.

Do you want to just print a sign? Simply click the following link to download a PDF Version of the sticker https://goo.gl/HSqPtb

Community Fence Project Exploration Lifts Off

Community Fence Project Exploration Lifts Off

Last Wednesday evening (30/11/2016) the Sippy Downs and District Community Association (SDDCA) Management team had the opportunity to meet with a number of residents who’s boundary fences face onto council land to explore seeking a solution in unity to deteriorating boundary fences with a view to avoiding an eclectic range of fence styles and colours as landowners reach a point where their boundary fences are literally falling apart and must be replaced.

20161130_182241

To initiate this meeting the SDDCA recently wrote to all residents this concerns on university way and invited them to meet with us to explore how, in the very spirit of our Unity in Community program, we could explore and brainstorm around opportunities to repair or replace the boundary fences shared by all these residents.

Over the last couple of years the association has been exploring and reaching out to affected parties in order to look at ways to approach this issue with very limited success however it’s with great pleasure that we can announce that a number of the landowner community members who attended this meeting together with key SDDCA Management team members have created a sub committee dedicated do exploring boundary boundary fence issues for the entire area with University Way and Springhill Drive boundary fences identified as prime candidates for our initial exploration. These two stretches of boundary fences front onto highly visible community ingress and egress routes and as such are receiving our initial attention with a view to identifying and progressing to locations relative to the successes of these initial explorations.

20161203_152705 20161203_152411All the parties interested in moving forward and exploring these opportunities will be meeting with the SDDCA management committee and formalizing this subcommittee on January 10 2017. If you own or rent a property whose boundary fence fronts on to a public spaces, be it Parkland or Major thoroughfares we would love to hear from you and see you at this subcommittee inception meeting in January. Please contact us for further details.

We would like to sincerely thank all of the residents and land owners who attended and we look forward to reporting back to the community as a whole on what Solutions and progress we have identified and made in the not too distant future.
