Sponsor found for University Way Fence Project

SDDCA MEDIA RELEASE

Sippy Downs and District Community Association (SDDCA) President Matt Druce is pleased to announce that a sponsor has been secured for the final stage of the University Way fence project between Colombia and Albany Streets, Sippy Downs.

Mr Druce said, “This is an important community project as this particular roadway is one of the area’s most used local roads and is in desperate need of repair and paint. A joint project last year between the SDDCA, Cr Christian Dickson, former State Member Steve Dickson and the Buderim Men’s Shed saw the restoration of the fence from Oxford Close to Scholars Drive. This has made an incredible difference to the amenity of the area with stage 2 set to remedy this long-standing eyesore.

“At the SDDCA AGM in August, we made an open call for sponsorship for the restoration of the remainder of the fence along University Way from Columbia Street to Albany Street.  I am pleased to advise residents that through town planning consultants Innovative Planning Solutions, Mr Graham Hobbs and Mr Ian Tregoning, the owners and Directors of Living Choice Australia, have responded to that call and advised that LCA will provide sponsorship for this project.

Completion of stage 2 of this project will see the erection of “Project Thank You” signage at the beginning and ends of stage 1 and 2 of the project, recognising the efforts and contributions of all the organisations and businesses involved. This has been approved by Council for a period of 12 months for which we are grateful.

We are aiming to commence work in the new year and are calling for expressions of interest from local industry relevant businesses to put up their hand and volunteer to assist in the management and delivery of this final stage, in turn securing the opportunity to have their business acknowledged in the “Project Thank You” signage. “The SDDCA has established good working relationships with many of the landowners in our fast-growing area and it is encouraging to see this genuine desire by Living Choice Australia to provide for the Sippy Downs community.  As well as the proposal of community facilities put forward by Living Choice Palmview on land bordering Chancellor Park Estate, they also have approval for a large residential development in Palmview. Our aim is to continue to work with them and other developers on matters of community interest.”

Mr Hobbs said, “Living Choice provides a wide choice of living options and leisure facilities in safe, secure communities located in sought-after locations. We value engagement with local residents and were only too pleased to provide sponsorship for this community project run by the Sippy Downs & District Community Association.”

Much needed fence repairs are on their way!

Much needed fence repairs are on their way!

It is with great pleasure that we can officially announce that the boundary fence line facing university way between Oxford Close and Scholars Drive, Sippy Downs will be repaired cleaned and repainted over the coming weeks as part of a joint project between the Sippy Downs and District Community Association (SDDCA), the Buderim Men’s Shed, Mr Steve Dickson MP for Buderim an Councilor Christian Dickson, councilor for Division 6 Sunshine Coast Council.

Each section of residential fencing along University Way between Oxford Close and Scholars Drive is being repaired, cleaned and repainted under this collaborative community project intern improving the visual aesthetics to this major access point in and out of the Sippy Downs area.

Residential boundary fences adjoining public spaces have the potential to become an issue in residential developments right across the Sunshine Coast just as it has in University Way, Sippy Downs.

For a number of years the SDDCA has explored a number of ways to deliver much needed repairs and maintenance to fencing along University Way Sippy Downs by conducting email and mailout offers to residents with limited success and engagement from residents.

Over the last few weeks Association representatives have personally visited all of the residential properties along the section of fencing listed above and sought approval from them to have this project delivered resulting in all residents whose fence is currently worse for wear happily agreeing for the works to take place.

Under current legislation, while residents who share a boundary fence with other residents are required to share the cost of fence replacement, residential properties whose fencing faces public land are solely responsible for the replacement and repair costs.

This creates an issue should individual residents begin to replace sections of fence that they own with different styles and colours of fencing as it can potentially lower the visual amenity of the main thoroughfare in the area.

We would like to, on behalf of the entire community, sincerely thank the Buderim Men’s Shed, Steve Dickson MP and Cr Christian Dickson for their contributions assistance and support!
